Launched in 1997, the 996 is the first of the later generation 911s with a water-cooled engine rather than the previously used air-cooled. The naturally aspirated 996 has had somewhat of an unloved past due to the financial constraints during development but is now finding its feet as a classic car and has seen a resurgence in recent years with fresh appreciation.
